Evidence supports that we are in the midst of a significant nursing shortage and it is expected to worsen in the next ten years. One of the significant factors contributing to nurses exiting the profession is burnout and job dissatisfaction. This session will focus on outlining the ingredients necessary for nurturing the person and the nurse. Skills regarding the ability to become an influencer to affect change within the work place will be outlined. Each participant at the conclusion of the session will start creating a vitamin recipe for personal and professional success. It is only when the caregivers needs are adequately addressed will they most effectively be able to help the patient and their families and feel good about being a nurse. Igniting the Flame: Mentoring the Staff Nurse in Evidence Based Practice & Conduct of Research

Conducting and moving evidence into practice is paramount in ensuring outcome driven patient care. With limited educational preparation and experience in the conduct of research, staff nurses often experience difficulty in conduct or utilization of research to find the answers for clinical questions at the bedside. Formation of a mentoring program between the staff nurse and clinical nurse specialist provides the necessary support and resources to learn the research process. This session will describe how a staff nurse is able to be involved in the research process through mentoring. Examples will be used to provide a step by step guideline for impacting patient care through the research process.
